Improved

Project:
Looking at how worthwhile it is to put in a natural disaster design compared to the past weather changes in natural disasters for a five storey apartment building between Vancouver B.c and Richmond B.c.


Method:
I figure the best way to determine this question is to look at:
1. What natural disasters are and what causes natural disasters and put in preventive measures with the ones that we can control. So would search for definition of a natural disaster (earthquakes, hurricanes rising oceans. and follow up with it what are some man made causes that set off disasters and perhaps look at how natural disasters start.

2. What are some major locations of natural disasters. What the different governments have done to buildings in that area compared to a area that is not in a heavy disaster area and compare the differences of the buildings. Also would be a list of these locations and a list of differences of the structures of the buildings that should all be five storey buildings. After this has been looked at then I will see if there preventive measures should be changed and if so how and reference them as to why the changes. Also put a list of preventive measures already in place and how it helps, doesn’t help prevent disasters. Then at the end of this would be asked if the policies are still worth while taking examples of other places that the rules do not work anymore because of the change in disasters over the past 100 years.

3. What are the dangers to buildings in a disaster area and how that damage can be minimized looking at past recordings to see what has been done to stop it. Following the ways that past designers have built the building and why they have done so. And ask the same as above if this is a worthwhile to keep in or remove if the disaster area has not had any major ones for a long time.

4. Looking at the changing climate and seeing what its effect can cause on the disasters that can change the way a building is built. After this is looked at do a preventive measure to stop the change in the climate that would stop the change in disasters that would stop the change in building design. But first list off the past climates and how it has changed in the last 100years. And then doing showing how its changed building design there.

5. Similar to method four but looking at what disasters has happened in the area. And then tie in as before with method four.

Special Problems:
How to show all of these relate to each other. Not to mention will the changes in natural disasters be noticeable enough to put into place a new building design.
Also:
Will even putting in the design work since the disaster could be larger than anticipated.
Should it be a comparison between two provinces or two areas in the province.

Hi Walter, quick question. I'm curious to know if when designing a building to be disaster proof, do the different safety designs impose on one another? Or is it perfectly viable to make a building disaster proof in every way?
